I WILL NOT LEAVE MY FAITH AT THE DOOR: Christianity, Conservatism, and the Fight for Faith, Fairness, and Viewpoint Diversity in Higher Education
About
I Will Not Leave My Faith at the Door is a personal and researched examination of what it means to enter higher education as a Christian conservative while refusing to abandon deeply held convictions.
Drawing from his own experiences as a college student, Scott Anthony Stevens explores the tension between faith, politics, academic expectations, classroom disagreement, grading, viewpoint diversity, and the pressure students can sometimes feel to remain silent about what they believe.
The book does not argue that every professor, student, or university thinks alike. Instead, Stevens separates documented experiences from personal interpretation while examining broader research on political ideology in higher education, campus speech, self-censorship, academic freedom, and intellectual diversity.
Christian faith remains at the center of the book. Stevens discusses why he believes God is real, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and the Bible is true, while examining historical, textual, philosophical, scientific, archaeological, and theological evidence that has shaped those convictions.
At its heart, I Will Not Leave My Faith at the Door asks whether students can enter environments where their beliefs are challenged, engage opposing viewpoints honestly, complete the academic work expected of them, and still leave with their convictions intact.
It is a book about faith, education, disagreement, fairness, intellectual honesty, and the determination to learn without pretending to become someone else.
